Role of the Board

The Board of Directors is accountable to the members for the performance of the entity and is responsible for the corporate governance practices of Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club Ltd.

The Board’s principal objective is to maintain and increase member value while ensuring that overall activities are properly managed.Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club Ltd corporate governance practices provide the structure which enables this objective to be achieved, whilst ensuring that the business and affairs of the entity are conducted ethically and in accordance with the law.

The Board’s overall responsibilities include:

• Approving corporate strategies and monitoring management performance
• Monitoring financial performance and, in this regard, working with the external auditors
• Monitoring and ensuring the maintenance of adequate risk management controls and reporting mechanisms

The Board delegates responsibility for day to day management of Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club Ltd to the Secretary Manager.

To ensure the board is well equipped to discharge its responsibilities it has established guidelines for the nomination and election of directors and for the operation of the board. These are outlined in the club’s Constitution.

Code of Conduct

Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club Ltd is committed to the highest standards of ethical business conduct. As part of that commitment Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club Ltd has an internal Code of Conduct to guide executives, management and employees in carrying out their duties and responsibilities.

The Code is subject to ongoing review to ensure Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club Ltd standards of behaviour and corporate culture reflect best practice in corporate governance. The code is based on the following key principles:

These policies are designed to foster and maintain ethical business conduct within Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club Ltd, and govern such things as workplace and human resource practices, handling of confidential information, risk management and legal compliance.

In addition, the Board has guidelines dealing with disclosure of interests by Directors and participation and voting at Board meetings where such interests are discussed. in accordance with the Corporations Law, any Director with a material personal interest in a matter being considered by the Board must not be present when the matter is being considered, and may not vote on the matter.

Smoking Policy

As of July 2007 Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club Ltd, in compliance with State Government legislation, will become entirely smoke-free indoors.

That’s great news for non-smokers as the air quality will obviously improve.

The news is good for smokers too as they will be catered for with  specific outdoor smoking area’s, known as Designated Outdoor Smoking Areas.

From July 2 these areas will be as comfortable as possible for smokers, while obeying the strict requirements of the legislation smoke-free environment amendment act 2004 (NSW) & OHS act 2000 (NSW) at the same time.

The Board of Directors have formally approved and accepted the location of smoking areas.

We at Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club Ltd wish to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all workers, patrons and guests by introducing a smoke-free club.

For Auditorium

  • Clean and Tidy at all times
  • No torn or dirty clothing
  • No Football Jumpers
  • No Thongs after 8pm
  • Sport Socks must be worn with Shorts
  • Ladies Tops must be Tidy and Discrete , No Singlets
  • Men No Sleeveless Shirts,No Singlets

For Mixed Lounge

  • Clean and Tidy at all times
  • No torn or dirty clothing
  • No Football Jumpers
  • No Thongs after 8pm
  • Ladies Tops must be Tidy and Discrete , No Singlets
  • Men No Sleeveless Shirts,No Singlets
  • Singlets and Football Jumpers may be worn in the Beer-garden.
  • Suitable footwear to be worn.
  • No offensive clothing to be worn in any part of the club.
